EMMA HYLAND
Emma is an Optometrist and Medical Writer with a strong foundation in clinical science and expertise in the evidence-based evaluation of medical devices.
She qualified as an Optometrist in 2013, earning a BSc (Hons) in Optometry from Technological University Dublin. She brings over 13 years of clinical experience to her practice, including valuable international charity work in Mozambique.
She also holds an MRes in Clinical Sciences from the University of Liverpool, where she graduated with distinction and was awarded the Laura Hand Prize for Best Overall Academic Performance. Her research focused on age-related degeneration in the peripheral retina, reflecting her strong interest in translational and clinically relevant science.
Emma specialises in the preparation of Clinical Evaluation Reports (CERs), where she critically appraises scientific literature and clinical data to demonstrate the safety and performance of medical devices. She works in line with EU MDR requirements and relevant regulatory guidance, with a particular focus on evaluating clinical risks, benefits, and the state of the art.
